Some 100s/Toad Hunting/Healthy Food Options

HURRICANES AND WEATHER
Jet stream will change little over the next week or so. That means that storms will ride across the central plains to the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys and through the Appalachians and the Eastern Seaboard. That will be the case over the next 2 days with 2 areas at a Slight Risk of Severe Storms. Very hot across the southwest and south with highs in the 90s, even some 100s in west Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Highs will be in the 40s and 50s across the northern plains and northern Rockies...there will be some showers in these locations as well.

Houston will continue with the hot weather...more highs in the 90s...it hit 90 on Thursday. There might slight relief early next week. No big rain events are expected in the next week.

SPANISH WORD OF THE DAY
Let's do salt or salar, pronounced sah-LAR. Sometimes we eat too much salar. See AND MORE for one solution to that problem.

Kids like to eat and there is a lot of that in our award winning DVD, Let's Learn Spanish with Frank & Paco. Kids who watch the DVD get a kick out of watching what other kids do. Order your copy from www.frankandpaco.com/. You can also order from http://www.venturaes.com/, http://www.dololanguages.com/, http://www.carlexonline.com,www.thecuriousmindstore.com/, http://www.amazon.com/,http://www.bestbuy.com/, and http://www.barnesandnoble.com/. Volume 2 is almost ready for release and Volume 3 will follow soon thereafter!!! For our English as a Second Language (ESL) version, got to http://www.frankypaco.com/.

AND MORE
Sarah and I found 3 toads tonight. We named the first one Houdini because he kept finding ways to get away. We named the second one Don Juan because he was chirping like crazy (a sound only the males make--especially during mating season, which has begun by the way). The last one Sarah named after herself--Sarah. Another way to tell the males and females apart is that the females tend to be the big ones. The males are usually smaller. We made 14 videos about toads--with me narrating and giving information about them. They are on www.youtube.com. Just search for TOAD HUNTERS. Don't forget the caps. I also have a link to one of the videos in the favorite links list at right--scroll way down.

Sarah has gotten into baked sweet potatoes. I've been wanting to introduce these into her diet as they are rich in fiber and Vitamin A. I just bake them in the oven or microwave them. Cut them open and put in some healthy butter like Smart Balance and some salt. She loves 'em!

Speaking of salt--that is the reason canned vegetables are frowned at. But, now there are many options for no salt added. The difference is astounding--per serving the regular veges have about 220 mg of sodium. The no salt added variety has 10 to 15 mg of sodium. So, go ahead and eat that type of canned veges. They are good for you and you can't beat the convenience.

Happy Friday everyone!

Hot is the word!/A free weather event

HURRICANES AND WEATHER
Hot is the word today across the south and southwest--lots of 90s including in Texas and the Houston area! There will be several areas with thunderstorms including the central plains and parts of the southeast. Check out the forecast from the Storm Prediction Center (at right). Nice and cool across the northern states with some locations enjoying highs in the 50s.

Houston is hot and steamy through the weekend...highs in the 90s. There is a hint of a slight cool down with slightly reduced humidity early in the coming week...and a slight chance for showers--but not big changes!

SPANISH WORD OF THE DAY
Let's do laughter or risas, pronounced ree-SAHS. Risas is the best medicine! I thought of this as Gordy and Sarah shared a happy moment this morning.

There are lots of laughing and happy kids (46 in all!) in our award winning DVD, Let's Learn Spanish with Frank & Paco. Order your copy from www.frankandpaco.com/. HOUSTON—Celebrate Weather Pioneer Day, a FREE event at The John C. Freeman Weather Museum, the nation’s first and only museum of its kind, on Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Weather Pioneer Day was created by The John C. Freeman Weather Museum to pay tribute to historical weather pioneers and meteorologists and inform the public of the rich and varied weather history of Harris and Galveston Counties.
Attention will be focused on the work of the first weather pioneers in the region and the challenges they faced in recording their data. This exhibition is devoted to them and their life’s work.

The free day-long celebration will include admission to the museum and kid-friendly activities the whole family can enjoy.
The John C. Freeman Weather Museum would like to acknowledge its partnership with the Houston Arts Alliance to expand the museum’s community weather awareness programs.

The John C. Freeman Weather Museum, located at 5104 Caroline in the Museum District, opened its doors in April of 2006 to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Founded and operated by meteorologists, the Weather Museum is a project of Weather Research Center, a Houston, Texas based non-profit educational and research organization, whose goal is to reach as many people as possible and educate them about weather and weather safety.

For more information, visit www.weathermuseum.org or call 713-529-3076.
